ach year the Department of Health advises us which groups of people should be recommended to have a ‘flu jab. The current recommendations include:-
All ages with Chronic Heart Disease
Chronic Respiratory Problems (including asthma, bronchitis and emphysema)
Chronic Kidney Disease
Diabetes Mellitus
Immunocompromised Patients
All patients aged 65 years or over (this has changed since 1999)
All patients living in long stay Residential/Nursing Homes.
Vaccinations will take place in October/November. Please look out for information posters and ask for clinic details early on.
Housebound patients who require flu vaccination should contact the surgery and we will arrange for someone to visit you during the vaccination season. Nursing, EMI and Residential Homes should contact the surgery with lists of patients requiring vaccination. Please also let us know whether there is an accredited member of staff in the home who can administer the vaccines.
The influenza vaccine can not give you 'flu (it is a dead vaccine) but nor will it prevent other coughs and colds. If you are in the target group but still do not wish to be vaccinated, please let the surgery know and we can give your vaccine to somebody else.
