oth practice nurses are experienced in providing advice to ensure your well-deserved holiday happens without any medical troubles. We are happy to recommend which vaccinations are appropriate, depending upon how exotic your destination will be. (Most vaccinations are 'free', however some are not available under the NHS and a charge to cover the vaccine and its administration will be made.) Most antimalarial treatments are no longer available through NHS prescription. Please allow as long as possible (at least 8 weeks) before you travel, to ensure you are adequately covered. Remember that all patients are recommended to have a tetanus booster every 10 years. From time to time there is a shortage of particular vaccines. We may at times need to redirect you to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. If you are planning a long trip (more than 3 months) to a remote rural area and require any of the more obscure vaccinations (rabies, Japanese Encephalitis, Tick-bourne encephalitis ) please note that these vaccines are not available on the NHS and are not routinely kept by the practice. We are able to order them and administer them for you however you will be required to pay the full cost of the vaccines.
